ABC's

Every week on Monday's the kindergarten classroom that I am in introduces a new letter for the week. My teacher has a box that is wrapped as though it is a gift. Inside the box is a stuffed animal of some type that begins with the letter. My cooperating teacher usually chooses a student to open the box if their name begins with the letter of the week. This makes the children really excited about learning new sounds and how to draw letters. It is a simple and fun way to get the students enthused. Today we started the letter D and inside the box was Duddly the Dog. Every animal also has a short story that is read to go along with the character.

  2. This is a really wonderful concept, it teaches the importance of letters and the sounds they can make.

  3. Our class also does a new letter each week. She has song books and a little plastic container with miniature things that start with the letter, such as dog, dinosaur, donut, and dollar. I really like the idea of weekly letters.
