Math Smart Board Lesson
Monday, the paraprofessional in my classroom was sick, as well as my partner, so it was only myself and my CT in the classroom. The first graders were SO hyper and full of energy, and my CT had to give a math test to half of the class. During that time, she asked if I would take the other half of the class and work on a Smart Board math lesson with them. At first I was nervous and not sure how the students would respond to me, but for the most part they stayed with me and paid attention. This was one of the first times that I had done an activity on the Smart Board, and whenever I needed help the first graders told me what to do. It amazes me that they all understand how to use the technology that we are learning about now! Overall, the math lesson went very well, even though the first graders were ready to go to gym by the end of the lesson!

That sounds like a pretty crazy day! I too, am amazed at how good students are with technology already in the first grade. The students in my class don't get to do a whole lot with smartboards unfortunatly :( but they are pretty good with the computers!!!! You can definetly tell who has them at home!!!
ReplyDeleteTeaching students when they are hyper is a tough task! Technology is lacking a bit in our school, but students are pretty good with the technology that we do have. Our classroom, unfortunatly, doesn't have a smart board so I am unsure if they have used one before. However, they are good with the computers. On Friday, we had computer time for Math and students found the website with almost no problem. But, as stated before, you can definelty tell which students get extra computer use outside of school and which students only get the little school time allowed.
ReplyDeleteWow. That's great that you got to use a smart board in the classroom! Unfortunately my CT doesn't have one in her room. But they have one in the music and art rooms so at least the kindergarteners I'm with get to experience the smart board then. I'm amazed by how much even kindergarteners know about smart boards. It's great to see them excited about learning with the aid of technology!
