Shaving Cream/Word Rings

Last week, as a reward, the students got to do their word work with shaving cream! Students really enjoyed the activity and were excited about spelling.  I remember spelling as such a dry subject, where all we did was memorize words and take spelling tests.  I know this idea has been around for a while, but getting to be apart of it was a learning experience! We got to see her take on keeping the students clean and focused.  This consisted of free drawing in the beginning and at the end.  Another technique my CT uses that I was unfamiliar with is word rings. Word rings are literally words on a metal ring, but they vary in their difficulty.  Once students have mastered their ability to read all of the words on one ring they can move to the next leveled ring.  I have really enjoyed this experience because I was able to see many different teaching techniques.  Along with that, my CT has allowed us to take the reigns and participate OFTEN. Its going to be hard to say goodbye today.
