Cultural Background
Today I was sitting next to one of my students; we were coloring camels for our classroom desert collage. Out of no where she says, "I was born in Mexico." Instantly I was curious, so I asked if her whole family was from Mexico. She told me her parents were both from Mexico but her little brother was born in the United States. I asked her if she spoke spanish and she said yes we speak it at home. For the rest of the time she refreshed my spanish skills and we spoke in spanish together. This conversation with her made my day!

I think that's great. It's amazing what the students tell you from out of no where. During a share time we had a student talk about their weekend and some personal family issues that probably weren't best for the entire class to hear. Luckly the teacher stopped and told the class it wasn't any of their business.
ReplyDeleteThat's great to hear! From my experiences with working with my kindergarteners one on one versus with the entire class or in groups is very different. They are much more cooperative and engaging when one on one. I'm glad you had a good experience with one of your students!
