Wide Range
While I am at my field experience, we are there during math time. The students are given math addition timed quizze once or twice a week. They are given 5 minutes to complete 100 basic addition skills. When I get them back to grade them its amazing to see the range that the students have. The last one I graded had as low as a 12 and high as a 100. Its amazing to me that there can be such a gap in 2nd grade classroom. It really tests your ability as a teacher as you try to bring it to a more even understanding. It opened my eyes to seeing that not everyone is the same, and to be a good teacher you need to be able to teach from many different angles.

Our classroom also has a large range of abilities in all areas. They have multiple volumes of math books that different students are working on depending on their mathematic level. They teach math in the morning so I was only able to see it twice, but it seems difficult to do a lesson when the higher level students already know it and the lower level students are learning or the higher level students are being challenged and its over the heads of the lower level students. You are right, it does open your eyes!
