Silent Reading time
One of my favorite times of the day is silent reading. The students grab a couple books and sit anywhere in the classroom they'd like to. They also rotate who gets to use the bean bags and pillows. It's one of my favorite times, because I can walk around and sit with each student individually and hear them read. It's also interesting to see which stories they've picked. I've gotten to know some of these students pretty well and the books they read definitely match their personality. It just goes to show you that everybody enjoys reading, they just read different things.

I have not been able to enjoy the experience of silent reading. Our classroom has been too distracted with the actions of a few. They continually run across the room, can't find a book, or think that is is "talk time." The few times they do behave, I agree it is one of the more enjoyable parts of the day. I really like when they come up and want to read you a book. It's fun helping them pronounce words and ask them questions about what they are reading. I think the longest they have made it however has been seven minutes. Hopefully this will be something that they can continue to work towards.
