Learning To Fly
I'm definitely starting to get more comfortable with the students, and they are used to having me be there everyday. This has both positives and negatives though, because it seems that they are trying to push the limits of what they can get away with while I'm working with them. Last week was a little hectic, but yesterday turned out to be a great day and they all listened to me very well. My CT also told me yesterday that she was going to be gone for all but 15 minutes of the class today, and I would basically be leading class. Yesterday, as a warm-up, I led the SMARTboard activity which went very smoothly. Today of course it would not work for me, but I just had the students come to the computer to complete the activity. The students were a bit "energetic" for me today as well, but I really can't blame them because they're regular teacher wasn't there and it's pretty much what I expected. I felt that I made it through the day very well seeing as this was my first day of being "teacher" instead of just "field experience student".

I totally understand what your saying about getting more comfortable with the students, and how they sometimes try to push past the regular limits, but it has been going pretty smooth for me. I think it is awesome that you got the chance to led the whole class. I'm sure you will benefit from that a lot I know I would!
ReplyDeleteI'm jealous that you got to take a little time to actually teach the class by yourself. I bet that was way different than just being a field experience student. (I know in the classroom I'm in, if the teacher wasn't there- they would be going crazy!)
ReplyDeleteThat is great that you were able to have that experience! I think that sometimes it is easier to just be able to do it instead of just learning about it. This experience will benefit you greatly!
