Read Alouds

Our CT has some of the students read stories to the class. This class has many different reading levels and not all of them can do this. When they do a read aloud they sit in front of the class and read a page then show the book to everyone. Most of the time they are really quite and don't show the pictures well, but some students do pay attention which I found to be interesting. I like the idea of having the student read a story to the class, it helps to portray a positive reading image for the other students.

  1. What grade are you in? I've never heard of students picking the books to read during the read aloud. I bet the kids are so proud when its their turn to read aloud in front of the class. I like this idea!

  2. I think that it is a good idea as well, but I'm wondering how the teacher chooses who reads in front of the class. As important of a skill as it is, if some students are not at a high enough reading level, it could be a bit demeaning.

  3. The students only share if they want to. I think it's a good idea especially if the students are excited to do them, which they are.

  4. I believe this is a good idea except what you mentioned about students not all reading at the same level. This may be difficult at times for students to understand what they are reading or even to understand. Its good the CT incorporates this though, for it probably helps out students in reading. Seems fun
