Substitite teachers!!!

Our cooperating teacher was gone on both Wednesday and Thursday of last week, so we had two different substitute teachers in our classroom. This was a very interesting experience for me! The classroom behaved very differently than they do when my CT is present. There were some problems that we don't normally have such as the students trying to get away with things that are normally not allowed, but at the same time they were abnormally well behaved!!!! The class ran very smoothly, which is not something I expected to happen while my CT was gone. It was also kind of cool because me and my partner got to be in charge for part of the time because we knew a little bit about the daily routines and what not. Another aspect that I found very interesting was that on the second day we had a male sub and none of the students had ever had a male teacher before! I guess that morning a student came into the classroom and ran out screaming because she thought there was a strange man in the room!!! The students were full of questions for him all day being as they found it a little strange to have a male teacher! He said it was the first time he had ever been asked both, if he had ever been divorced, as well as how he proposed to his wife! It was a fun and interesting couple of days to say the least!

  1. I couldn't agree more about having a sub. I had one in my classroom once last week and it was a very different day. There are 2-3 students that we have to be on top of during a normal day, so when we had the sub I figured they would be even worse. That wasn't the case at all, actually they were a little more well behaved than normal. However, there were a couple of other students that were way over the top for the sub. I talked to my CT about this and she wasn't surprised in the least. She told me, it's all about attention!

  2. We had a sub and she actually told the students that this was her first time. So by the time my partner and I got there the class was pretty crazy. I found students who usually are well behaved acting up and some students who usually need help were doing quite well, it was almost as if they liked getting the positive attention while the other students got the negative attention. Then we had another sub a few days later and this time things ran much smoother. The students were still trying to get away with things but with my partner and I there all day it was much harder for them.
